Articles List: Saints and Icons

Articles on Saints and Icons

This section of our website is a collection of articles about the saints of the Church, their holy relics, and their icons. We hope to include articles of particular interest to our parish, especially about the saints whose icons are found in our church or whose holy relics are kept here. Articles about our feast-day icons will also be included.

Icons are much more than beautiful decorations in an Orthodox church. They remind us of the presence of Christ and His saints and teach us the truths of the Christian faith. Through them, our thoughts and hearts are lifted toward the holy persons whom they depict and, ultimately, toward Christ, whom they reveal.

Icons can encourage us to imitate the virtues of the saints and to follow their example of faithfulness to God. In the life of the Church, they serve as a means of veneration, prayer, instruction, and spiritual remembrance, helping us to see and experience the reality of the heavenly Kingdom toward which we are called.
