MOTHER CHURCH – 1) The Church of Jerusalem, as being the first Christian Church. 2) The church that granted autocephalous or autonomous status to create another church from one of its own diocese.

MOURN

MOURN – Sorrow and contrition of heart, with unfeigned tears, for that we so imperfectly and unworthily serve the Lord, or even rather deserve His anger by our sins. For godly sorrow worketh repentance unto salvation not to be repented of; but the sorrow of this world worketh death. (2 Cor. VII:10.)

MOVABLE FEASTS

MOVABLE FEASTS -The feasts (holidays) which depend on the date of Easter. Ascension Day comes forty days after Easter, and Pentecost Day comes on the fiftieth day after Easter.

MYRRH

MYRRH – (Chrysm) The sacred oil which is used for annointing in the Sacrament of Chrysmation. This sacred oil is a mixture of many substances and is made by several bishops on Holy Thursday.

MYRRH-BEARER

MYRRH-BEARER – (1)One of the various customary saint titles used in commemoration at divine services when remembering saints on the Church Calendar. (2)  One of the women who were present at Christ’s passion and went to the tomb to anoint the body of Jesus.

MYRRH-STREAMING

MYRRH-STREAMING – One of the various customary saint titles used in commemoration at divine services when remembering saints on the Church Calendar.  Myrrh-streaming, Myrrh-gusher, or Myroblete: the relics of the saint exude holy and sweet-smelling (and often miraculous) oil.

MYSTERY

MYSTERY – The ways of God, especially God’s plan for salvation, which cannot be known with the rational, finite human mind, but can be experienced only by the revelation of God.
