SCHISM – Formal separation from the unity of the One, Holy and Apostolic Church. The Great Schism in 1054 divided the Church when the Western Patriarchate of Rome separated from the four Eastern Patriarchates of Constantinople, Alexandria, Antioch and Jerusalem.
