10th All-American Sobor

The Tenth Sobor meeting November 10-13, 1959 was largely uneventful. This council received reports from the Metropolia’s various institutions, organizations and administrative bodies. The sobor also reexamined in detail some parts of the Statute adopted at the previous council and made a few amendments. In the activities of this council and the next one, the development of the scope of the Metropolia central administration’s work is clearly evident. Although, perhaps for the first time in the history of the All-American Councils, there was no extremely pressing issue on its agenda, the sobor met as mandated by the 1955 Statute (every four years). The councils had played such a crucial role in church life that their regular convocation was deemed essential for the Church to gather together in order to digest and discern events in church life since the previous council and to prayerfully plan the Church’s growth until the next one.
